The End!

We start with the shades of Blue as we are in Greece and of course.. The Greek flag. Slightly before Sunrise we arrive at the port of Heraklion. A book is very important. One of the best buddies out there. Either you travel or not. It has a lot to offer and just wants to teach you a thing. It does not expect anything in return. After it fulfills its purpose, it can be donated, stored or even discarded (if you are cruel enough).

As most of the seaside locations in Greece and especially the Greek islands, we start with a port. Most of them have a simpler version of a lighthouse. Most of the times, a pile of rocks with a fire on top. Anymore... just the remainings of them are preserved. Behind of those columns, we notice little boats. They are very important for the culture as they bring fresh fish. Some of them supply local markets and others feed their families. As you have seen from our previous posts, I really love them. They are part of a port though... Which is as beautiful as them. There are a lot of people trying to attract tourists. Others on land but many of them by creating a unique maritime experience. During the fourteen hundreds and later or earlier, islands were popular for their infamous pirates that soared the sea. Here we find little boats 'dressed' as pirates ships. Then anybody can enjoy a small trip from another age for small price.

Going around the old port we find lots of ancient buldings being preserved or others left on their own luck. How about one of the most popular castles of the area? A venetian one. It help us travel through time for a little bit. The carvings, the doors and the statues are clearly from another age staying alive to this day. As you can see I really enjoy being on top of the walls, peak and take pictures. The vast sea though... is daunting!

Finally, we drive out of the city and we find a small village. That of area and archeological site of Knossos. A tremendous piece of history. This small place still has ancient pieces, pavements and roads of the old ages. There are little shops that sell pieces recreated from the ancient times. Later we head back to the port and head back. See you soon, back to our moody country.
